About Simple Budget UK: Low Income Budgeting UK Guide

Hi, I’m Jan, and I manage my own household budget on an income slightly below the UK State Pension while working part-time. Like millions of people across the country, I balance the daily pressure of rising utility bills, supermarket food costs, and everyday spending.

What I share on this platform is based entirely on real, lived decisions—not theoretical economic advice.

Meet the Author: Life Outside Budgeting

Jan from Simple Budget UK sharing practical low income budgeting uk tips.

Hello and welcome! If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years, it is that time flies, but every stage of life brings its own unique magic.

I am a proud parent to two grown-up children and an absolutely doting grandparent. For me, family is everything, and spending time with my loved ones is the anchor that keeps me grounded.

When I am not on grandparent duty or tracking expenses, my days are filled with an eclectic mix of hobbies and passions!

While managing a tight budget is a big part of my day, it doesn’t define who I am. When I am not tracking pennies, here is what my life looks like.

My Furry Family

No personal story about me would be complete without paying tribute to the loyal companions who have been the beating heart of my home. Over the years, I’ve had five wonderful dogs whom I’ve adored. They weren’t just pets; they were an integral part of our family, teaching me so much about patience, unconditional love, and the joy of simple moments. Though they may run through different fields now, their paw prints remain forever etched on my heart.

Behind the Lens

Photography is my great escape. I run a local photography club, which is fantastic for meeting like-minded people, and I love exploring the UK with my camera. I am deeply drawn to ancient, sacred landscapes—from the mystical ruins of Glastonbury and Stonehenge to the intriguing atmosphere of Alderley Edge.

That love for connecting with people spills over into my part-time job at the local library. I genuinely enjoy customer service, helping patrons, and being a familiar, helpful face in our community.

Creativity, Crafts, and Community

I’ve always been a creative soul, diving into various college courses over the years from pottery to aromatherapy. My tech journey started years ago when my kids were in school; I taught myself computing on an old machine and developed a genuine love for digital problem-solving.

When the sun goes down, you will likely find me logging into World of Warcraft. I’ve been wargaming in Azeroth for years—it is my absolute favourite, immersive way to unwind and challenge myself after a busy week.

When I’m not exploring Azeroth, I’m busy curating helpful visual tips and freebies over on the official Simple Budget UK Pinterest Profile.
